GROOMING FOR SUCCESS: WBI@WORK SOURCE A BI-MONTHLY STYLE CLINIC
LOOK SHARP WHEN YOU’RE LOOKING FOR A JOB!
WBI AT WORKSOURCE: GROOMING FOR SUCCESS – JOB SEEKER STYLE ADVICE WITH SENSE AND HUMOR
When you are job seeking, it’s not just a resume that drives the decision to hire or not to hire.
Don’t make the mistake of thinking that your appearance is secondary to your credentials. Your physical presentation is, in fact, one of your top credentials; it recommends you to the employer better than any personal reference after the fact.
Work Source Career Counselors John Adams and Terri Hoover invited WBI to present ”Groom for Success” tips at the Van Nuys office, and it was a successful interaction. WBI Ambassadors JR, Mistey, and Marisol, advanced students of Barbering, Skin Care, and Cosmetology, gave general and specific advice and consultations during and after the seminar, whcih lasted 40 minutes.
Humor and special advice is included.
WBI will present 2x a month in Van Nuys, and will reach out to more WorkSource Centers in Los Angeles. Here is what WBI brings:
1. Look the part! What job are you after and what’s appropriate? Hair, Facial hair [men], Clothing, and Makeup that help get the job are what’s right for that specific career.
2. Stand out in a good way. Leave the perfume, cigarette breath, gum and garlic at home.
3. Ladies, go light on makeup but don’t look faded either. For women in sales, marketing or creative fields, a brighter lipstick is attractive. For corporate, banking, or financial jobs, subtle is better.
4. Leave the flashy accessoiries at home : flowers in the hair, earrings on men, too much jewelry [men and women] is a no-no. Men and women, leave the sunglasses in the car. And ladies, unless you are going for a job in a nail salon, long fancy nails, are not a good idea. Short, clean is good, only polished if they are freshly done. And do not wear open sandals or flip flops to an interview, even if you are going to Seaworld for a job!
5. Hair on men: shorter is better. Trimmed up around the ears and neck looks neat and scores points. Shave that stubble, unless you are going out for a DJ job or a role as a tough guy.
